How does light therapy technology work?
Certain wavelengths of light have beneficial effects on the skin and can be harnessed for therapeutic applications. Light wavelengths are often referred to using their associated color and include blue (405-470 nm), green (470-550 nm), red (620-660 nm) and near infrared (NIR) (700-1000 nm) lights.
Blue light has been clinically proven to kill the acne causing bacteria, P. Acnes. Less P. Acnes = less breakouts and clearer, smoother skin. Red light has been clinically shown to reduce inflammation and help stimulate skin cell turnover and regeneration, increasing the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.
How do I use my illuMask?
Your illuMask device is as easy to use as putting on a pair of glasses. Start by cleansing your skin as per your usual regimen. Then slide the mask on to your face. Push the ON button, located on the controller, holding it down until the lights turn on. Your illuMask will automatically turn off at the end of your 15-minute treatment session.
Can I continue to use my current skin care products while I’m using illuMask?
Yes, you can continue to use your current skincare regimen while using illuMask. For best results use illuMask as directed. Wash your face before using illuMask and follow with your other skincare products once the treatment session has finished.
Should I stop taking my prescription acne medication before I start using illuMask?
Why are there only 30 uses in the mask?
We strived to make the mask both affordable and efficacious. We measured and controlled the intensity of the light emitted by the mask to insure that each treatment session delivers the same amount of energy (lumens). After 30 doses, the mask’s LED lights lose a significant level of luminous intensity (irradiance) which results in it being less effective. Longer lasting lights would drive up the cost, preventing us from keeping the price at $1/dose. A $1/dose was paramount to our strategy of democratizing skin care.
Are these products tested on animals?
No, we do not test our products on animals. Clinical trials of illuMask were conducted with real people.
Do I need to move my hair from my forehead while my illuMask is in use?
We suggest keeping your hair off of your face during the treatment, to insure that your skin is getting the maximum benefits of the lights.
Will I get a tan from using this mask?
No. Suntans are a result of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. illuMask does not give off any UV light so you will not tan as a result of continued use.
Can I open my eyes during my illuMask treatment session?
You can either gently close your eyes or keep them open during the treatment, whichever way feels comfortable for you.
